Foundation Subjects
History, Geography, Art and Design and Design Technology are taught through the Connected Curriculum, where learning sequences are linked together. This develops knowledge, which the children can transfer from one subject to another. Frequently, the Connected Curriculum sequences are reflected in English, so that the learning can be deepened through guided reading and the opportunity to apply their knowledge in writing. We believe that this approach results in varied and engaging lessons, which stimulate the children, teachers and our whole school community. Moreover, learning skills within a context makes the learning more relevant and more memorable.
Computing, Physical Education (PE), Music, Religious and World Views (RWV), Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Modern Foreign Languages (French) are taught discretely. This ensures the substantive and disciplinary knowledge is robust.
In order to secure a high-quality curriculum, we also deploy subject specialists, alongside our teachers, in PE and MFL. This supports access, depth and progression in alignment with our curriculum values.
Subject Long Term Plans (LTPs)
The Subject Long Term Plans outline the content that is taught for each subject in our 3-11 curriculum. It includes an overview of what is taught in the Early Years and how this prepares children for Key Stage 1 and then Key Stage 2.
The LTPs have been carefully designed to ensure that children learn and retain the National Curriculum; therefore, it is planned in a systematic, meaningful and relevant manner, that reflects the needs and backgrounds of the school community.

Subject rationales
Subject rationales outline how each area of the curriculum has been thoughtfully designed to create a learning journey over seven years at Talbot. As such, the rationales can be thought of as our intent for each subject and include detail of how the children think of themselves as scientists, historians or geographers for example.
