Leeds Beckett intensive PE lessons – learning from experts
This year, Talbot Primary School is deepening its links with Leeds Beckett University.
For two PE lessons this term, Year 5 children were taught by a cohort of undergraduate teachers, from Leeds Beckett University, specializing in PE. This was organised so that the trainee teachers continued the normal sequence of PE lessons. This meant Year 5 continued to learn dance as normal.
The undergraduates worked intensively with the children, offering more individualized coaching in groups of six – meaning they all worked up a good sweat by the end of each session! Moreover, the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and appreciated the extra guidance they received.
“The dance teachers were really friendly, and they did good activities with us. When we needed help, they explained exactly what we needed to do, so we could get better. They were good dancers and it helped us learn. I hope they come and work with us again.”
Zaynah, Arora and Ella (Year 5)
At the end of each lesson, the trainee teachers, reviewed their planning and delivery to ensure they got as much as possible out of the experience. We are proud to support them in their journeys to become the PE teachers and subject leaders of the future; they were a credit to Leeds Beckett University. A special mention to PE lecturer, Ryan Ellis, who organised the event with school – thank you.
