Knowledge and understanding of the world – Welcoming spring
Our exploration and investigation of the seasons and our local environment, continued in this term as we moved from winter to spring. We are lucky enough to have a few trees with blossom on during the spring months and the children naturally notice these as they come into nursery and as they play. We also began preparing the nursery garden for the spring back into the autumn by planting spring bulbs, which the children have been excitedly watching to see the buds open.
After sharing some information texts about spring and what to look out for, the children went on some hunts around school to spot signs of spring, such as the blossom, new buds and birds. As part of our exploration of the season, the children also used their creative skills to represent the blossom that they saw as well as other spring flowers, such as daffodils and tulips. One of the highlights of the spring calendar is us visiting the hatched chicks in year 2, which always allows them to experience new life in spring first hand.
The spring time also gives us the opportunity to explore the various festivals and celebrations that our families take part in, such as Eid, Easter and Mother’s Day. The children always love sharing their activities from home via our online journal, Tapestry, especially explaining them to the class on the interactive whiteboard.
