Celebrating the diversity of our community

Spring time is always an exciting and hopeful time, filled with new life and (hopefully!) better weather. Spring also gives us the opportunity to celebrate and learn about the diverse nature of nursery and join in with celebrations that children and their families enjoy.

As well as marking children’s birthdays if they would like to, we invite parents and children to share their news from home via the Tapestry learning platform. This year we learned about Lunar New Year and talked about how the children have experienced sending and receiving cards and presents at special times in their family. February also saw pancake day and the beginning of Lent as well as the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

As well as sharing books and objects connected to special events, children are invited to share their knowledge and experiences by talking about their photos and videos on Tapestry with the whole class. Children in the early years enjoy sharing their special occasions with us and we in turn, enjoy hearing all about them and using these first-hand experiences as learning opportunities with the other children.
