World Book Week – fostering a love of reading

During World Book Week, the children enjoyed finding, discussing and drawing their favourite characters from familiar texts. One of the children in Reception even made a wonderful Supertato, using a real potato! All of the children were inspired by this and wanted to make one too, so they made lots of Supertatoes and even some Super Carrots.

The fun did not stop there; the children came into school dressed as a word. We had a range of words such as powerful, loved, strong, smart, and colourful, just to name a few. In the afternoon, the whole school took part in a vocabulary parade, so we could see everyone’s lovely ideas. The children used this inspiration to discuss lots of new words and their meanings.

Furthermore, the following week Reception took part in a dance workshop, where the children told the story of the Gingerbread Man through dance.
