Knowledge and understanding of the world - celebrating Eid

Mrs Bhutta helped Reception children to learn more about Eid and how many Muslim families celebrate it. The children learnt that people like to greet one another with the phrase “Eid Mubarak” and she brought in various artefacts, for children to examine in the curiosity cube.

Lots of children were keen to share their own experiences and how they celebrated Eid at home. Some children were proud to show lovely Mehndi patterns and all children enjoyed designing their own ones on paper. Reception pupils also dressed up in traditional Islamic items of clothing.

The classes learnt how Muslims often break their fast with a date, and tried tasting some. A vote was held to see how many people liked or did not like dates, and the results were translated into a pictogram of results. Lastly, the children shared books like ‘The most exciting Eid’ and ‘The proudest Blue’ and ‘In the Mosque’.

At Talbot, school takes pride in providing meaningful learning opportunities like this, exposing all children to the different beliefs and traditions celebrated within the school community. Also, this early education directly supports the Fundamental British Values of mutual respect and tolerance of religious beliefs.
