Physical Education – Developing Teamwork
Every half term at Talbot, each year group studies 2 different disciplines in PE. During the Autumn term, Year 6 focused on OAA – Outdoor Adventurous Activities – for one of their topics.
Throughout the topic, pupils are given the opportunity to work in groups to solve problems and create new and interesting strategies to find the best solutions. They are also able to develop co-operation, independent thinking and teamwork, which are all great skills to bring into all areas of their learning.
One of the favourite activities the classes took part in was ‘Hot Coal’, with the aim of the game being to work collaboratively to transport a ball from one side of the room to another using just the end of a set of hockey sticks. The groups were quick to get started, with many different strategies in play. Some groups set off quickly before realising the need to plan out clearer tactics, whilst other groups developed a plan of action beforehand, which allowed them to use trial and error methods. Communication, focus and teamwork were key to this game.
Everyone worked together and all of the groups managed to get the ball across the room. There were lots of happy Year 6 children.
