Science – learning how to look after our local habitat

Year 2 have been busy in their science lessons as they explored how to care for their local habitat. As part of a Science topic on living things and animals, the children worked together to create informative posters that highlight the importance of protecting local habitats.

The learning began with a class discussion about what a habitat is and why different plants and animals rely on these spaces to survive. The children were fascinated to learn how even small changes—like dropping litter or removing plants—can have a big impact on the creatures that live there. With this new understanding, they set out to design posters that would teach others how to look after these precious areas.

The pupils filled their posters with colourful illustrations, helpful tips and thoughtful messages. Many included ideas such as keeping green spaces clean, planting flowers for pollinators and creating safe areas for wildlife to thrive.

It’s been wonderful to see Year 2 show such curiosity, creativity and responsibility as they learn how to protect the world around them.
