Religion and World Views - Year 2 faith visit and assembly

Religion and World Views – Learning about how symbols are used to welcome new life.

This October, Year 2 displayed their Religion and World Views knowledge that they had gained over the Autumn term to parents and carers in their faith assembly. The children explained the ways in which different faiths welcome new life such as in a Christian Baptism and a Muslim Aqiqah and presented the symbols used as part of the ceremonies.

Year 2 then visited St Andrews Church in Roundhay, to learn first-hand from Reverend Tim about how people are welcomed through baptism ceremonies. The children visited the Church to gain experience of a Christian place of worship and see the special objects used in a baptism ceremony.

Reverend Tim explained the process of a baptism and the children acted out the different roles that are part of the ceremony.

Afterwards, all the children had the opportunity to explore inside and outside the church. The children had to locate special features from a baptism such as the font and pulpit as well as spot symbols such as the cross and the candles.
