Ice Skating: a chance to try something new

A group of twelve enthusiastic Year 2 children embraced the winter spirit on a cold December morning by heading out on a special trip to try ice skating. For many of them, it was a completely new experience and it provided the children with a chance to take on an exciting challenge.

Supported by the wonderful instructors and school staff, the children learned how to balance, glide and move safely on the ice. There were wobbles, giggles and a few gentle tumbles but every child showed impressive determination and resilience. Many children began their skating experience by holding on to the sides but they were soon keen to bravely persevere without support. By the end of the session, many were skating independently, proudly demonstrating their new skills.

The trip wasn’t just about learning a sport. It was an opportunity for the children to challenge themselves, build resilience and discover the joy of trying something unfamiliar. Teachers were especially proud of how the group encouraged one another, celebrating every small success. The children used every fall as a lesson to try again and they should be very pleased with what they achieved.

It was a memorable winter adventure and a wonderful way to end the term.
