English - bringing The Lorax to life through descriptive writing
Year 2 have been enjoying The Lorax by Dr Seuss and they have produced some fantastic writing inspired by the story. The children compared the land before the Onceler arrived, when it was full of colourful Truffula trees and happy animals, to the land after his arrival, when it became grey, polluted and lifeless.
Their work clearly showed how the Onceler’s actions changed the environment over time. It made us think about how we can be more caring towards our environment and to others around us. The children also compared characters, describing the kind, caring Lorax and contrasting him with the mean, grumpy Onceler, showing a strong understanding of character and message.
A key focus of this learning was the importance of using exciting adjectives and noun phrases. Through using these, the children understood that their writing would become more interesting and allow the reader to picture the setting and characters clearly.
We are very proud of Year 2 for their thoughtful writing and for using language so effectively to share an important message about caring for our world.
