Embracing Hip-Hop - expressing yourself and being resilient

In an exciting and engaging session, Year 2 had the privilege of learning with Phil Tang, from Hello Hip-Hop. Phil spoke passionately about his love for creativity and the values of hip hop culture, highlighting a significance of self-expression. The interactive workshop provided an enriching experience that resonated deeply with the children.

Throughout the session, Phil captivated the children through a variety of different performances linked to the art of hip-hop, showcasing his talents of beatboxing and dancing which inspired the children to try for themselves. Phil spoke about how hip-hop changed his outlook on the challenges of daily life, highlighting its roots in creativity, resilience, individuality and community.

Phil encouraged students to embrace their unique voices and perspectives, stressing the importance of authenticity and ‘being yourself’. The children had the opportunity to perform a variety freestyle dance moves and they loved adding their own ‘flavour’ to their performances which inspired them to showcase their individuality and expression.
