Problem-Solving Workshop – a curriculum enrichment opportunity

Children at Talbot Primary School took part in an exciting new Problem-Solving Worksop. Year 3’s focus was working in teams to solve a variety of tasks.

The children began by working in groups of ten to lift large wooden blocks from one place to another. There was one big problem. They could not use their hands to lift the blocks. Instead, they had to use a series of ropes and their teammates to move the blocks. Communication was key and the children, after a slow start, performed excellently using their problem-solving knowledge to complete the task.

The final task allows the children to use their hands, but in a very different way. Again, the children worked as a team to lift a table and pass a ball through a maze without the ball falling through holes onto the floor. The first level used a large ball, but as the children’s skills improved, the task was made harder by using a smaller and smaller ball.

Year 3 showed fantastic communication and teamwork skills, whilst having a great time.
