World Book Day 2026 – celebrating vocabulary

On Friday 6th March, everyone dressed up in school for World Book Day. This year, the children and staff tried something a little different and took take part in a ‘Vocabulary Parade’ on the playground. Pupils were encouraged to dress up as word, stretching and challenging their vocabulary.

The Year 5 teachers were very impressed by the range of words, which the children came up with. There was a range of adjectives, noun and verbs, which included:

·        Stealthy

·        Vibrant

·        Fragile

·        Camouflage

·        Equestrian

The children really enjoyed getting to share their words, and explaining why they had chosen them. During the day, Year 5 looked at each word again during a vocabulary parade outside, and the children made ‘World Book Day’ book marks to mark the occasion and enjoyed listening to a story being read to them by a different teacher.

Each child also received a free book token to spend on a brand-new book.
