Hip-Hop workshop – learning about modern dance

Year 5 took part in a Hip-Hip workshop led by Hip Hop expert, and a regular visitor of Talbot, Phil Tang. This was a fun and energetic way for Year 5 to explore movement, creativity, and confidence.

Along with learning simple choreography and expressive freestyle, Phil talked to the children about key elements of Hip-Hop, including artwork and breaking. Phil introduced the children to the roots of hip-hop culture - celebrating community, positivity, and self‑expression.

After learning about how important it is to be yourself and look after your body, Phil taught the children some signature breaking moves. They combined footwork, freezes and spins. Phil even engaged in a dance battle with some volunteers, which was great fun.

To conclude the session, the children had the opportunity to stand out from their classmates, showcasing their newfound dance moves. It was great to see confidence increase as the session progress.
