Scientific knowledge and understanding – welcoming Autumn

The children in nursery have been learning about the seasonal changes that happen as Autumn arrives. We started our learning by looking at some Autumn images and then asking the children what they already know about this time of year. Here are some quotes from the children:

“The leaves fall off the trees”

“Conkers fall off the trees”

Next, the children looked at a non-fiction book about Autumn and discussed some of the images in there, including their own experiences of pumpkin and blackberry picking.

One of the children’s favourite Autumn activities so far, has been conker bashing! The children were given tools to open horse chestnut shells to reveal the conker inside.
