Developing fine motor control through making mosaic art

In the Autumn term, the children showed a keen interest in cutting and snipping, and they enjoyed experimenting with developing their control over scissors.

To support this interest and to develop this skill further, the children were invited to make some mosaic art, with their own pieces of paper and ribbon, that the children cut up themselves.

After looking at some real mosaic art, the children chose their own materials to cut. They created they own mosaic shapes, before securing them on to black card with glue.

This open-ended activity gave the children the opportunity to practice their snipping skills and creative skills without any pressure to create something in a particular way. Ultimately, the children were very proud of their pieces of art; as were their teachers.
