Building positive relationships at Key Worker time

Every child in nursery has a ‘Key Worker’ – an adult who the child, and family, can build a relationship with, to support the child’s learning and development in a positive way. All the adults in nursery help to settle children in when they first start, but the Key Workers are vital in making sure that the children feel safe, secure and ready to learn.

As part of the Key Worker role, at the end of every session, the children break off in to their ‘Key Worker’ groups. This is a special time when stories, rhymes and many other activities can be shared in smaller groups. Each Key Worker group has a group ‘mascot’, who the children get to know and play with at Key Worker group time, helping to build a sense of belonging to the nursery.
