Religion and World Views - learning about the Sikh faith

As all children move up the school, they learn about major religions – Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Humanism.  Each year group specialises in one particular religion over a half or full term, learning about different aspects of that religion in more detail. This deeper-dive means that the children are able to present an assembly performance in front of parents, carers and other children from their phase group, demonstrating this knowledge.

Year 6 performed a faith assembly on the birthday of Guru Nanak, the Sikh religion’s first Guru. The children explained who Guru Nanak was and told their audience of his message of everyone being equal to the world.

During the final term of the year, the children of year 6 visited a gurdwara in Chapel Allerton (the Sik Temple) to learn more about the Sikh religion. They learned how important the gurdwara is as a place of worship and as a centre for the Sikh community. The children were able to ask questions about the Sikh holy book (Guru Granth Sahib) and how selfless service (SEWA) is performed within the building and the community.
