In Year 4, we have been learning about rocks and fossils in our science lessons.
We looked at a variety of different rock types ranging from granite to marble and investigated their different properties.
We made observations about their appearance, texture and we tested whether they were permeable or impermeable. Permeable means that the rock soaks up liquid, whereas impermeable means it does not. The different properties of rocks mean that different rocks are useful for different purposes, e.g. Marble is often used for the surface of a table-top as it is impermeable and very attractive.
It is interesting to see how rocks are used all around us in everyday life!
