In English, we have been reading the story ‘Funny Bones’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We used ‘book talk’ when looking at the book and located the book’s key features such as the title, author, spine, blurb and front page.
Once we had read the story the children acted out the story using the Talk for Writing actions: First, Next, After that and Finally. It was evident that the children had practised these actions lots during the bubble closure, when doing their home learning; as when children came back to school they knew the actions really well. We made our own story maps and found that the actions had really helped us to remember the story.
When looking at the story we also listed our own adjectives and nouns when looking at the settings.
