Starting in Reception 2020

I hope you are all well.  Thank you for accepting the place for your child for our Reception cohort for September 2020.  Of course, in normal times, our transition programme for our new children and families would be much more personal and traditional with additional opportunities to visit the school and staff ahead of September.  Given the restrictions in regards to health, hygiene and social distancing that we are required to operate in however, unfortunately many of these practices are not possible.

However, rather than let this defeat us as a team, we have developed a bespoke transition programme that will allow us all to continue to feel informed for September.   As a result, as parents and carers you will have access to:

  • A key induction pack for your child. You can collect your pack from the school office.  This pack not only provides information on which class your child will be in, but also the date they will be expected to start.  The pack also contains an ‘All About Me’ school questionnaire about your child which will help us to get to know them.  The pack also includes a special hello from all the adults who work in Reception which can be shared with the children.
  • A Virtual Tour of the school, including the Reception class. You will also get to meet Mrs Callaghan and Miss Christy! Just see the video below – it is very informative for you and your child, plus you can watch it as many times as you would like!
  • The Reception New Starter presentation. This will take parents through the practicalities of the school day, routine, uniform and the curriculum so that you will stay informed.  Please see below for this presentation.
  • Our online home school assessment platform, Tapestry. Once you have registered, you will be able to securely upload pictures and videos of your child to the platform.  Your child’s class teacher then accesses these securely.  It is a lovely way for us to get to know your child and keep in touch.

Resources to help you

New to Reception presentation for parents and carers - see this presentation for how we will settle the children into school and get them ready for learning.  The presentation also covers aspects of the school routine, curriculum and policies.

A really useful social story to share with your child over the holiday.  This will help them to become familiar with their classroom and also some of the adults who will be on hand to help them.

See Mrs Callaghan and Miss Christy's welcome video below. They have also shown true 'Talbot courage' and been brave to share one of their favourite stories with you too.  We hope that you enjoy them!

If you need any additional support, please do contact your child’s class teacher via their email address, or alternatively call the office on 0113 2934086 for any additional help.

We look forward to seeing you all in September.
